Have you seen the Hundred Pushup Challenge?

I read about it on KFJ’s blog and thought nothing of it. Nothing until I tried to do 100 consecutive pushups. At fifty, I got jello arms and was forced to tap out. That was the motivation I needed to jump on board. That, and the fact that if ever presented with a challenge from KFJto a pushup-off, I couldn’t live with myself if I lost.

I’m currently in week 4, and I fell pretty good about my chances. (I started in week three since I could already do 50 consecutive) The hard part is keeping the kids from trying to “ride daddy” while I’m doing my pushups.

Anyway, check it out. It’s a cheap(free) and fun source of exercise. If you decide to sign up, send me a comment letting me know so we can encourage each other.

I’m convinced that every weekend is crazy and jam-packed, and that sabbath = Sunday afternoon nap. Here’s this weekend’s wrap-up.

  • Took the kids to a birthday party at the park for our friends.
  • Performed a backyard wedding between storms. Let’s just say I’m glad I stuck to my guns on payment.
  • Went to a birthday party for my friend’s girlfriend. Quote of the night, “I know who you are. I’ll try not to disrespect you. I’m sorry I didn’t meet you sober.”
  • Sunday services at RPC rocked! Gabe brought it. And my friend Bobby McCue made his speaking debut. It was Bobby’s first time in the barrel, and he knocked it out of the park. He spoke on Luke 16:10-13 about chasing the American dream vs. following God. His big idea was We come to church to be entertained and we go to culture to be taught. The part that got me was the footnote about Abraham and Isaac – The Lord will provide the sacrifice. Good stuff! BTW – Bobby doesn’t blog, and we don’t know why.
  • Ate lunch at Sonny’s with our family group. I love our family group. Who are you in community with?
  • Sunday afternoon nap! I highly recommend it!

That’s my wrap-up for this weekend. Anything I missed?

These words have been around for ages. We like it when people use these words. I teach my children to say these words. Better yet, I expect it from them.

Do you know how often I use these words with my spouse? Hardly ever. And I didn’t even notice until we had a conversation with Emily about her and Mike starting to use them and how it positively affected their relationship.

So we started saying “Please” and “Thank You” to each other. (Ginny more than me, if we’re being honest.) The result: I am more willing to accommodate my wife’s request when one word is added. And, I am more willing to continue that behavior unprovoked when “Thank You” is tagged onto the end.

Could it be that three forgotten words can change the world? I know this: It has made a difference in my marriage, which affects my children, who affect the future of everything. You tell me.

Thank you for your time. Please come again.

For those of you wondering, Boo Boo Cat is progressing rather well. I’m a little disappointed that a sick cat is the main fodder for my blog, but such is life. We have, however, signed him up for anger management classes. He hisses at everyone. Until you pick him up, and then he’s fine. And he is checking out the other cats, who really aren’t sure about him right now.

We’ve also talked about giving him a real name. I am somewhat against this, since naming him makes him more real, if that makes since, and therefore harder to part with should the time come. Right now we are going with “Trace”, which is a cruel pun on him having three good legs.(uno, dos, tres) I liked “Kickstand”, but I was the only one. Josh suggested “Tony”, but we already have a cat named Tony. Riley is stuck on Boo Boo Cat. So there you have it.

Any suggestions on a name?

BTW – his bad leg seems to be getting better, he has worms, and he goes to the vet on Friday for a checkup.

BTWW – A bath worked wonders for the dirt and fleas, and his attitude.

Was phenomenal! I was amazed. I didn’t calm down for 160 minutes. Some of it was predictable, but the story was great. And it stuck pretty true to the PG-13 rating. There was no bad language, just some gore and violent scenes. Heath Ledger was a very convincing Joker, better than Jack Nicholson. And Batman is just the man. The quintessential hero. Standing up for justice, doing what is right, whatever the cost.

Go see it. You won’t be disappointed.

What else is new.

This one, however, has the potential to be exciting.

We (Ginny & I) are going to see The Dark Knight tonight. If I can finagle it, we may try to eat at Mt. Fuji as well.

Saturday is my family reunion. That’s all I have to say about that.

Sunday I get to preach at RPC. I love speaking! Word on the street is we’re going for a world record. And I have another fascinating Michael story. You don’t want to miss. Services are at 9 & 10:30.

Oh, yeah. Sunday is also my birthday, which explains Batman on Friday. Kinda.

Monday is my dad’s birthday, which officially makes my 1 day older than him.

I can’t believe I just wrote that title.

Anyways, Boo Boo Cat is doing OK, aside from the fact that only 3 of his legs work right now. I don’t know if his back leg is broken or what, but it doesn’t move. And, it seems that I am the only one that he likes. And by likes I mean tolerates without trying to eat my face off.

Riley has claimed the cat as Riley’s Boo Boo Cat. That’s not good. She tried to hug and kiss the cat, much to Ginny’s chagrin. Anyways, here’s a picture of Boo Boo Cat.

BTW – Josh is praying for Boo Boo Cat. Big things happen when Josh prays. Seriously.

….one cat at a time.

My wife has the biggest heart of anyone I know. Seriously. It’s bigger than the Grinch’s heart after it grew three sizes. She especially has a big heart when it comes to animals.

One time, she called me crying, blubbering about a squirrel she’d seen get run over. She wanted me to return to the scene of the crime, make sure it was dead (not suffering) and then bury the animal. Of course, I promptly headed out, shovel in hand.

Yesterday, the phone rang. It was my wife on the other line blubbering. “Did a squirrel get run over?” was my response. No. It appears she saw a kitten get hit by a car, so she stopped to help. The kitten was still alive, but very agitated and hurt. Ginny scooped the cat up in a diaper and rushed him to the vet. Rumor has it she got Josh to make ambulance sounds along the way.

The vet checked the cat out, and determined that he might live. I’m guessing the prognosis is a 50% chance (just guessing). Apparently, that cost $60. I’m not a vet, but I drove past a Holiday Inn Express once, and I could have made that determination for much cheaper.

Nonetheless, the cat is currently residing in our hall bathroom. Riley has named the cat Boo Boo Cat, for reasons intuitively obvious to the casual 2-year old.

That being said, there’s a 50% chance I may have a kitten available for adoption soon. I spoke with Sylvia Brown, and she saw a man by the name of Bobby taking the cat to replace his daughter’s lost cat. Who am I to argue with Sylvia Brown?

While I was thinking of something brilliant or spontaneous to write about, I ran across this post by Melissa.

Go there and check it out. It’s pretty powerful, and better than anything I could come up with.
