I used to get aggravated that my wife would watch King of Queens, but not the news. As of late, I’m thinking she’s on to something.
Pig Flu is all over the news. Everywhere. They’re calling it a pandemic. I can’t wait to see Geraldo’s take on it.
Here’s my take. 150 people have died. In Mexico.
I’ve been to Mexico. Their sewer system is a ditch. Their health care system is a vet in a pickup. More people die at soccer matches than from Pig Flu.
But this isn’t about Mexico. Consider this my formal apology for the previous sentences. This is about the news media.
Why does the news always have to be so sensational? Why does it always have to be over-the-top? Why does the sky always have to be falling?
13,000 people have died this year from the REAL FLU, but 150 dead people in Mexico with Pig Flu is a pandemic?
Really?

If you need someone to get on the soapbox with you I am available. I wished they would SHUT UP and stop scaring people or people would realize what the media is doing to them and turn their tv off.

1918 Spanish Flu killed LOTS of people. Really bad stuff.
http://www.boingboing.net/2009/04/29/spanish-flu-of-1918.html
But of those that got it, 97% survived. In 1918. With non sterilized hospitals and none of the technology we have now.
I’m sick of hearing about it. I watch baseball.

The media makes everything bigger and badder than it really is. That’s is how they get you to watch. Swine flu, pig flu… it is a new strain of flu. Ooohhh the world is going to end.
Plain and simple, if you get sick and have a fever go to the doctor and get treated. Don’t go back to work or school until you are healthy. Seems pretty easy right?
That’s why people are so panic stricken. They can’t handle the simple things that only require some common sense to get through.

Being a former FL Dept of Health employee, my best advice to anyone is to simply wash your hands and use common sense. I got a recorded msg on my CELL phone tonight from the health dept… The only other thing I can think we should not be doing is kissing any pigs!
